Judging from the bursting-at-the-seams session rooms at ILTACON 2022 this week, some of which were standing room only, current interest in legal technology was a sight to behold! ILTACON executives said the conference had about 3000 attendees this year, all in-person because there was no virtual curriculum offered.

Anyone who has been in legal technology for a while will tell you that August equals ILTA - this year is no exception, even though 2020 has been anything but typical. Although ILTA>ON 2020 had to go completely virtual due to the COVID pandemic, the conference still upheld the tradition of providing top-notch educational programming with insightful speakers, modern perspectives, and intriguing strategies for using technology to benefit the practice of law.

SOLID East in NYC, an event produced by the Cowen Group, was a dynamic, interesting and highly enjoyable conference about legal innovation. SOLID, which stands for Summit on Legal Innovation and Disruption, featured a slate of well-known speakers ranging from lawyers to legal ops professionals, vendors and data scientists.

On Thursday, March 8th, the world celebrated International Women’s Day, and Chicago enthusiastically joined in! I had the privilege to attend three amazing events last week: ABA TECHSHOW, Evolve Law’s networking event entitled Getting Women a Seat at the Table, and Legal XX at Chicago-Kent College of Law.

Any legal professional can use technology to benefit a law practice. However, I have keenly observed women lawyers’ strategies for success over the years, so I am particularly interested in how they effectively leverage technology tools in their law practices to advance their careers, service clients more efficiently and achieve a better work/life balance.

One might expect that every law school would want to train its students to succeed in the legal profession. Logically, this should include learning technology and innovation skills. However, many law schools are not yet convinced that this kind of practical non-theoretical education is their responsibility.
